Casting/Employment Opportunities

ACTORS!! Casting News - Autumn 2019

Hope

We would now like to invite submissions for our 2019 Autumn/Winter Production of 'Hope'.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the new cast for the UK's most performed Anti-Bullying production.

'Hope' (now celebrating 10 years of touring) tells the story of a beautiful and successful pop star returning to the town where she grew up for the first time in years. A chance encounter between her and an old school acquaintance brings back painful memories of her childhood and the systematic abuse and bullying she suffered at the hands of a classmate. It is a story of courage, self-empowerment and redemption.

Following the performance actors remain in character and facilitate a workshop with the audience. Candidates should be comfortable with the idea of being part of a workshop. However, no previous experience is needed and the session is heavily scripted.

The production will be touring the UK between Monday 21st October - Friday 22nd November 2019 (rehearsals will take place shortly in advance of this). Accommodation and Travel are provided by the company during touring weeks.

Auditions will be held in Central Scotland. Please see individual breakdown for more detailed casting information. In addition to being excellent performers, candidates should also be passionate about delivering theatre to a young audience. It is also crucial that they possess great team working skills.

Salary: £350 - £375 per touring week (Based on position and level of experience)

APPLICANTS MUST HAVE A BASE IN CENTRAL SCOTLAND AND CONFIRM THIS IN THEIR COVERING LETTER. APPLICATIONS FROM PREVIOUS AUDITIONEES AND TOUR MEMBERS ARE ALSO VERY WELCOME

Character Breakdowns

Hope
Although now a successful pop star, Hope is forced to relive the trauma of the bullying she suffered at school. The part requires a sensitive actress who is able to betray Hope's vulnerability. The successful candidate must have a good singing voice.

GREAT TEAM WORKING SKILLS ARE CRUCIAL TO THE JOB. THE ABILITY TO DRIVE WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS BUT IS NOT ESSENTIAL

Amy
Throughout the play Amy can be seen Bullying Hope. The bullying is realistic and relentless and at times uncomfortable for the audience. However, at the end of the story it transpires that Amy is bullied herself by an abusive parent. The actress playing Amy must be able to convincingly portray both aggressor and victim. This is a great part for an actress willing to make brave acting choices.

GREAT TEAM WORKING SKILLS ARE CRUCIAL TO THE JOB. THE ABILITY TO DRIVE WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS BUT IS NOT ESSENTIAL

Joe
Joe is Amy's sidekick. The character is (in the most part) comedic and the actor must have great energy throughout. By contrast, the same actor will double as Amy's intimidating and abusive Father.

GREAT TEAM WORKING SKILLS ARE CRUCIAL TO THE JOB. THE ABILITY TO DRIVE WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS BUT IS NOT ESSENTIAL

Mr Gibbons
Mr Gibbons is a Secondary School teacher (Playing age 20 -35). He has a firm but fair approach to their job. The character has a dry sense of humour and can be quite sarcastic despite not wishing to seem unkind. The actor will double as Hope's concerned Father.
